Math Centers - Place Value

My students have been working on place value for the past few weeks. I am so excited for how great math centers have been going in my classroom. I get so many great ideas off of Pinterest and it is amazing to see the kids so excited about math. If you want to follow me on Pinterest, click HERE!

Take a look at some of my students in action learning all about place value!

These place value cups are amazing! These were a life-saver for my students struggling with expanded form. I first introduced them in a guided math center and now they use them at the other centers or during whole group. We just started thousands this week and we will be adding the thousands cup.

Here the students are using dice,  place value houses, and their place value cups. The students roll the dice three times and pick where they want the numbers to go in their houses. Then they do that, they write down the expanded form. Finally, they use their cups to check if their expanded form was correct.

I love Thinking Maps and incorporate them in pretty much every subject. Here the students are using a Brace Map to break down their numbers into tens and ones.

Along with place value has been skip counting. The students are skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. The other game is a small board where students have to put the numbers in order by 2s, 3s, 5s, or 10s. Each number is a different color.

I hope you have been able to get some good ideas to use in your classroom for place value! Pinterest is filled with great ideas. I feel so lucky to have it at my fingertips!

*As I said before, most of the activities I found on Pinterest. I do not own any of these ideas. I am just sharing what is working for my second graders. :)
